John Borack and I used to notice that a particular writer would say in many
of his reviews that a band sounded like "a cross between band x, band y, and
Shoes". It got that we would see this phrase (or a variation thereof) in
his reviews so often that we started making up our own, like "they sound
like a cross between Little Richard, Einstürzende Neubauten, and of course,
Shoes". We had a lot of laughs over that!
