I just got the new Brian Wilson CD, 'Gettin' In Over My Head', and I'm
pleased to say that I'm really enjoying it! More laid back than
'Imagination', with a much more understated (though full) production. The
liner notes by David Leaf celebrate the idea that Brian is finally doing
"music that makes him happy", and it surely does sound like it! I found
myself getting immersed in the "Brian" element of it all so deeply that I
really didn't notice the appearances of luminaries like Elton John, Eric
Clapton, or even Macca! I did, however recognize Carl's lead vocal on "Soul
Searchin," one of the tunes on the album taken from the Andy Paley sessions
of the early-mid '90s. Brian received a little help from a lot friends,
including most of his backing band: Darian Sahanaja, Nick Walusko, Scott
Bennett, Jeffrey Foskett, and Probyn Gregory. Best of all, there is only a
scant residue of Joe Thomas. :-)

Nothing spectacular here; just a nice, relaxed, and assured album, which is
something all Brian fans can be grateful for.
