Wow, Greg. A fight over the best version of Gloria? I had never even heard
the Shadows of Knight version of Gloria until a few years ago. It was on
one of my compilations. It was never released here in the L.A. area, I
don't think, because I sure don't remember it (anybody know???).
It's hard to believe that it wasn't released in L.A., Judy, as the Shadows
of Knight version was a national hit -- it was the 80th biggest hit of 1966
according to *Billboard*, ranking right between "Barbara Ann" and "My World
Is Empty Without You". It's inconceivable that a song could reach that lofty
summit without being released in a market the size of Los Angeles. More
likely, the radio station you listened to back then just didn't play it.
