Not to knock Adrian Belew by any means, as he is a terrific pop writer who's
melodic gems can fall somewhere between Electric Light Orchestra-ish
Beatleisms to quirky XTC territory, but his fellow Bears aren't chopped
liver. The core of The Bears were in Cincinnati's wonderful band, The
Raisins. "Fear is Never Boring" on The Bears' debut is actually an old
Raisins number. It's easy to call The Bears Belew's band, but I've always
thought of them as an equal partnership. I missed them during their first
go round, so I consider myself fortunate that I saw them when they toured on
their third album -- excellent performers who are hilarious on stage.
