Thanks, Jim. Besides my previous raves for Newbury Comics, attention must
be paid to Twisted Village in Harvard Square. This is not a store I spend a
lot of time in, both for reasons of comfort -- in most of this tiny
basement space, the ceiling is about 6'3", and I'm about 6'5", making
crouching a necessity -- and income. The finest specialist record store in
the country, Twisted Village is your one-stop shopping headquarters for
psychedelia, freakbeat, space rock, free jazz, noise and other fringe forms
of rock adn roll. The store is run, incidentally, by Wayne Rogers and Kate
Biggar of Crystalized Movements, the Magic Hour, the Major Stars, et al.

Big ups as well to In Your Ear (the Allston location on Comm Ave), Nuggets,
Diskovery (if it came out between 1968 and 1987, you can buy it on vinyl
here for about $2), Flipside, the Virgin Megastore (what a major-market
chain record store SHOULD be) and the best general-purpose used CD store in
the area, Disc Diggers in Davis Square, Somerville.

Other stores I have fond memories of: Bow Wow and Natural Sound on Central
Avenue in Albuquerque, University Records in Lubbock (1984-95), Ralph's
Records ditto (1984-1992), Rocky Mountain on Pearl Street and Wax Trax! on
the Hill, Boulder (1980-1984), and the Hastings chain, all location, during
the month of January, when they clear out the used CDs for prices as low as
-- no shit -- 11 cents a CD. And it's not all crap, either!
