Yes, yes, I agree absolutely - this is a great release. It's been lumped in reviews with a shoegazer revivalist sound, which is off the mark. I interviewed Marcus Congleton, songwriter - central figure of the band a couple months ago for my radio show, in part because he's a Eugene, OR native (who transplanted to NYC several years ago) and he assures me that they're anything but a shoegazer band live as they're quite a bit more....engaging. So if you go Kelly, I'd be curious to hear how it plays out. http://www.ambulancenyc.com
That said, another HUGE fave of mine in recent weeks has been an album by the HUSHDROPS. I believe they appeared (or at least on my radar), with their less than compelling version of "Overnight Sensation" on the Raspberries Preserved soundtrack. However their new album, simply titled "Volume One" is sure a total delight - in part space rock, in part Beach Boys, Bacharach - and maybe a sense of pastiche similar to the Wondermints. These gents have worked with the Webb Brothers, and Kevin Tihista's Red Terror. In any case, this is a super release - definitely one of my favorites of the year. http://www.hushdrops.com and http://www.subspaceplatform.com/news.htm . I'm curious to hear if anyone else has been listening to this one..digging it as much as I do!?
For SOTT participants, I've included tracks from both of these on my SOTT 18 entry, so be on the lookout for 'em!

...they are playing Montreal on June 9th w/ The Volebeats. I don't go
to concerts very much any more, but I'm wondering if they might be worth
seeing live? Having said that, Ambulance LTD is playing the following
night and I'm really thinking of attending that show as their
full-length debut is one of my favourites of the first half of 2004. I
doubt if I'll be able to make both shows!
