I was at my local Dollar Tree today (I don't know if the chain extends across the entire country, but it's basically an Everything's-A-Dollar store), and they had a large stand of DVDs for a dollar. They were all in envelopes rather than cases, and it's stuff that's apparently outside of copyright, but there were discs of "Burns and Allen," "Flash Gordon," "You Bet Your Life," and, as the subject line notes, "The Jack Benny Show." Volume 1 of the Jack Benny discs contains "The Jack Benny Hour," which is apparently the first hour-long special Benny made after the demise of his half-hour weekly show...and, in an obvious bid to bring in younger viewers, the Beach Boys make an appearance, singing "California Girls" and participating in a sketch with Benny and one of his other guests, Bob Hope. It's actually pretty funny, and it's cool to see the Wilson brothers, Al Jardine, and Mike Love in their prime, having fun. The quality's not spectacular, but, hell, for a buck, just to be able to watch it is worth it. Keep an eye out...!
