I don't have any stories of meeting really famous people, but I can add to
the sub-thread on moments of stupidity when meeting a musician.

Back in the '80s I was working at the college radio station at the
University of South Carolina, and I was quite enamored of the Boston band
Scruffy the Cat. They came to Columbia on tour, and one day the guys from
Scruffy were due to come up to the studio for a quick interview. I happened
to be around that afternoon and got introduced to Charlie Chesterman.

Now, it was cool to meet him and everything, but I wasn't exactly
starstruck. I mean, this was Scruffy the Cat we're talking about here. But
for some reason when I talked to him, I acted like a gushing fanboy. I said
something about how I really liked their "High Octane Revival" record. He
said thanks or something, and I capped off my remarks by saying "Yeah, I
especially like 'Tiger Tiger' ... that song is a really great album."

What a dork. At least I probably made Chesterman's day, acting like he was
Paul McCartney or something.

Robert
