> my friend had it backwards, and in the interview asked Petty what made him record the McGuinn song "American Girl."

Reminds me of the time I got on a plane a few years ago, and saw Bo Diddley sitting two rows behind my seat. I smiled and said "Hey Bo!" and he nodded back at me. As I went to place my bag in the overhead bin, I saw a guitar in the way and looked over at Bo, who was maintaining a close watch. I pointed up at the guitar and said, "So is that Lucille up there?" He looked puzzled for a second, and said, "Lucille? Uh... No man, that's B.B. King's guitar!" Then he laughed out loud, and I shrunk down into my seat. After getting off the plane, he was very friendly and gave me an autograph. Man, how stupid can you get...

By the way, those in the NYC area should go see Splitsville tonight at Acme Underground. I saw 'em last night at Fletcher's in Baltimore and they are truly at the top of their game. They played for over an hour to a larger than usual crowd. I thought the highlight of the show was "The Next One" from their new CD, which started with Brandt on guitar and Tony on drums, and they switched instruments very smoothly during the song. It was also nice to see Sherman at the gig.

Be seeing you,
Bill
