I'll second this, and add that I was visiting Dear Old State a few months
ago and had a great experience there.

It was early evening on a weeknight in the middle of spring semester, and
there were a few students hanging out with Greg playing bits and pieces of
new and old stuff for them. A sampling of Rufus Wainwright led to a
discussion of Nick Drake ("Oh, that tune from the VW commercial?") which led
somewhere else, all the while Greg popping in a different CD to illustrate a
point.

I don't think any of them bought anything that night, but they certainly
left with more than they came in with.

All the while, I was browsing the new CDs and the considerable rack of
used/cutout CDs. When I'd collected my stack of purchases (7 or 8 CDs) and
brought it to the counter, I had to tell him that I was so glad he was still
there, and that the service he gave those kids is something they'll probably
never see the likes of again. We had a nice conversation from there (he
claimed to recognize me from my PSU days, mid to late 80's; possible I
guess), where he let me know that, yeah, sure, it's a constant struggle, and
if it weren't for his wife's lucrative career, he'd have had to close shop
years ago.

Arboria is also still peddling CDs in their current location on Beaver Ave.,
but never really held a candle to City Lights in terms of selection or
service. Otherwise, nothing at all in downtown State College -- Blue Train,
National Record Mart, gone gone gone.

Sad, how times change.
