THIS particular lazy logic only really works if you...
(a) Don't recall David Geffen's admonishing producer Jack Douglas during
final mixing and sequencing to "highlight the softer, "Imagine" aspects of "Double
Fantasy," so as to ensure his new signee an easier slide back into the
spotlight (and already powerfully emerging AC demographic) following John's five
year Exile on 72nd Street,
(b) Haven't heard the much more characteristically rough 'n' tumble (tho,
I'll agree, FAR from "Plastic Ono" calibre) Johnsongs thereby jettisoned off
"Double Fantasy" and held over for 1981's planned "Milk and Honey" album (...which
would've been a KILLER),
and lastly, but certainly not leastly
(c) Can't realize it was easily YOKO'S songs which saved "Fantasy" from a
fate worse than (ouch!) Elton Joel.
That all said, perhaps Dave Rave was right all along in realizing John's
comeback would've been SO much better served by hiring Rockpile as his studio (and
even road!) band back in the summer of 80,
