Hey Bob (& All),

I'd have to second your assessment of the new Davenports record "High-Tech
Low Life"; I can definitely see the Brian Wilson connection there and didn't
think of it until you mentioned it but I can also see the Joe Pernice
similarities as well. High praise in my book anyway you slice it. I guess
vocally Scott and Joe's voices or style of singing are somewhat close and
certainly both writers have an amazing knack for quirky/detailed character
study. I really love Scott's talent for wordplay and his unconventional
approach to describing something/someone. His style is pretty unique, I
don't see many people in the pop forum writing that way without becoming
somewhat overbearing. He totally pulls it off.

Aside from Joe Pernice, vocally Scott always reminds me of Dan Wilson from
Semisonic. Does anybody else hear that?

Anyway, I might be biased (I'm a big fan of the band and I sang a bit on the
record) but I'm really enjoying "High-Tech Low Life", it's a great piece of
work - strong writing, detailed production and performances with a wide
appeal in and outside of the pop world. It's also a very 'mature' sounding
pop record which I love. Finding a way to age gracefully inside the
Bubblegum Factory is something that's hard to do and something a certain
someone I know is struggling with himself :)

Best,
Mark

I posted a couple of days ago about similarities between Scott Klass'
melodic style and that of Brian Wilson circa '67. I just realised another
band The Davenports remind me of (both melodically and in the style of
singing) are The Pernice Brothers at their poppiest. Anyone else agree?
