Live Aid DVD
(Tuesday March 09, 2004 12:19 AM)
Plans to finally release the Live Aid concert almost 20 years after the
globe-straddling event have emerged.
The news comes just days after it was confirmed that Bob Geldof, who
organised the mammoth event to combat Third World famine, had played a key
role in uncovering an illegal Live Aid pirater.
U2, Madonna, David Bowie and Queen famously featured in the 16-hour
Transatlantic concert in 1985, which raised millions for charity but has
never become legally available.
John Kennedy, speaking for Band Aid, said the release would be "an asset for
the people of Ethiopia" and halt the distribution of illegal copies.
He said: "It's a surprise to all of us that we're still here 20 years on
spending and receiving money. But because of piracy, it's becoming available
without earning any money."
