I think its bad rap is undeserved. It *is* a rather unfocused record -- on
the other hand, so is 1999, and no one bitches about that -- but those two
(excellent) songs are by no means the only high points, and the
psychedelia-meets-R&B vibe is a more fruitful one than many people gave it
credit for. And frankly, he deserves major respect simply because he
didn't simply come up with PURPLE RAIN PART II.
