Interesting, Chuck...thanks! I would love to hear the Ian Matthews version.
I always loved the Left Banke...and since they were talking about ELO
sounding like the Left Banke, I have to say that I always loved ELO, too!

And a pretty terrific song, too, covered to good effect by Ian Matthews on
his 1980 album SPOT OF INTERFERENCE (RSO RS-1-3092). Very of-the-time
arrangement and production, which eliminates the keyboards prominent in the
original in favor of layered guitars and crisp, up-in-the-mix drumming.
Matthews' lead vocal part is a little less stylized than that of the Left
Banke's Steve Martin, and his own multi-tracked harmonies are a match for
the Banke's on their version. One of those instances where I actually
prefer the cover to the original.
