I have a japanese LP of the Beach Boys "Summer Days & Summer Nights" where
they
mangled the lyrics to many Brian Wilson classics. The lyrics to "Amusement
Parks U.S.A." are horrible. I swear Japanese record companies must have little
cubicles where someone with a grasp of the english language sits down with a
LP/CD player and transcribes these lyrics one line at a time.
As for "Overnight Sensation" I NEVER heard it on any Top 40 station (in
California, nor in Oklahoma when my family moved there in August) when it was
charting back in 1974, and never as a recurrent or oldie.
The stop-starts in tempo, and the great part where it sounds like a transistor
radio must have freaked out and confused programmers who want a constantly
LOUD
record for fear of listeners tuning out. That it made it to #16 In
Billboard is
a miracle.
