And the next generation have just been robbed of all the government funding
we've been lucky enough to tap into in the last 15 years. In March FACTOR
was cut-off by the Ministry of Communications for arts council funding.
FACTOR's contract will now expire March 2005...after which, Canadian
recording artists will have to find their own backing for things like video
and tour support.

Our "When CanCon Rocked" Volume 1 comes out in two weeks.....19 tracks
dating back to 1967 (Guess Who) right through to material released this year
by "Classic Rock" artists. Some exclusives here too....previously unreleased
Luke & The Apostles, a rare Wackers track, Segarini, Goddo, Hellfield,
Lennex, Honeymoon Suite, Brave Belt, Klaatu, Andy Curran, Jeff Healey, Wild
T. & The Spirit, Harem Scarem, Killer Dwarfs, Moxy, Santers, and more...

Volume 2 will actually incorporate several tracks from the original "Made In
Canada" series, including Lords Of London ("Cornflakes & Ice Cream") and
Syrinx. We'll also have Randy Bachman, Neil Young, Rik Emmett (ex-Triumph),
Brutus, Diodes (one of Ralph Alfonso's biggest successes), Frank Marino,
Teenage Head, Junkhouse, The Poles (featuring Michael Jordana), Abraham's
Children, and more.

Of course, Gary and I have been talking for years about a "Gods Of The
Hammer" retrospective on the unique musical community in Hamilton -- to
include Simply Saucer, Forgotten Rebels, Smile, Buxton Kastle, Jack Pedler,
Teenage Head, Altogether Morris, Trouble Boys, The Shakers, King Biscuit
Boy, Sonny Del-Rio, Harrison Kennedy, Jackie Washington, et al.

But, the trail of dead-end negotiations continues....I have dozens of
projects that I want to put out but the legal and greed barriers continue.
Even my Beatles tribute has been a quagmire of legal pits....soon to be
resolved.

Heritage Canada's been dropping millions into Universal's lap to re-issue
their back-catalogue (any of the CanCon versions of the 'Millenium Series'
have been seeded from this fund)....but there's been no serious attempt by
the label to catalogue or re-issue with the exception of one David
Bradstreet record....which HE had to pay for re-issuing....Universal paid
for the pressing, but Bradstreet had to get the mastering and artwork done
out of his own pocket. Nice....

The National Library has been independently restoring and digitizing
Canadian archives...but the process has been on a priority basis....the
Bradstreet master tape was accidently melted during the baking process by
the National Library staff!! The Universal release was eventually taken from
vinyl. So, I don't put much faith in getting them to move our archiving
forward.

Unidisc in Montreal, for better or worse, has the monopoly on Canadian
re-issues having acquired the bankrupt Attic Records two years ago....we're
finally seeing things like The Nylons, Lee Aaron, Fludd, Teenage Head,
Anvil, Bopcats, Body Electric, MacLean & MacLean, The Killer Dwarfs early
material, Blind Vengeance (who became Harem Scarem/Rubber), Patsy Gallant,
Razor, Irish Rovers, Maestro Fresh Wes, Sara Craig, Villains, Hagood Hardy,
Haywire, Downchild, Perfect Affair, Goddo mid-period releases, and such
re-issued properly. They've even dug a little deeper and recovered the works
of Ken Tobias and Shirley Eikhard among others.

What Unidisc also controls is the entire Daffodil, Aquarius, Birchmount,
Arc, Quality, and Yorkville catalogues....a lot of which has come out on CD
in the last year...material by Lynx, The Beau-Marks, Leyden Zar, Morse Code,
Ronnie Hawkins, Wednesday (!!!), Crowbar, A Foot In Coldwater, April Wine,
The Stampeders, Christmas, Catherine McKinnon, Walter Rossi, Ocean, Ugly
Ducklings, The Hunt, Dillinger, Harry Hibbs, Moxy, Motherlode, Mitsou,
Nanette Workman, Sticky Fingers, Skydiggers, Teaze, The Travellers, Terry
Black, Toulouse, Trans X, Walter Ostanek.

On Bullseye we're going to release the first EXTRAS album (Dr. Demento's
favourite tune by them was "Circular Impressions"), the entire BOMB Records
catalogue, Toby Swann, and early next year will be our own vinyl archives
from 1985-1991 which have never been re-issued on disc before.
