Hey Jude
(et al),
A quite old little Canadian Pop Primer column of mine should still be up
at......
http://www.cosmik.com/aa-april01/gary70.html
.....but this only really scrapes the tip o the proverbial iceberg.
Yet as Jaimie and Ralph have already stated
(and as so many others have been railing about for YEARS now),
Canada's rich musical history, and the talent which produced it,
have been given so little of the respect it and they most certainly deserve,
from within its homeland industry most especially, and most tragically.
I guess it's been about twenty years now since a fine series of "Made In
Canada" compilation elpees began to right this sorry situation, but next to
nothing has been attempted since to get the absolute wealth of Canadian rock, pop,
punk and especially R&B music back out on the market and, just as importantly,
properly packaged and promoted to American and European audiences. And most
attempts to bring these stellar catalogs completely and properly back to
digital life (via Jaimie and Bullseye Records best of all) have been bogged down in
an even larger than usual swamp of legal caca.
Where is the Canadian equivalent of the Library of Congress / Smithsonian
Institute / R n R Hall of Fame even ?? Get the John Einarsons, Jaimie Vernons,
Peter J. Moores, Larry LeBlancs et al of Canada together in and on a common
cause, give them the support (and budget) (and legal army) they and the music
deserves, and get this history OUT THERE already!!
Okay,
Finished ranting (for now),
Gary "The O'Canada Factor" Pig
