I bought my copy at Sam's on Yonge Street just before Xmas.....and then I
walk into Legend Records in Ottawa and find that there's 30 copies sitting
there.

The band kept buying copies when it was part of the "Handmade" Connesseur
Series....they bought 1,000 right out of the hole -- under much protest from
EMI themselves (don't get ME started about why....). Then Richard Patterson
of The Esquires raised a stink about it and the Esquires debut album being
on-line only and not available at retail....Richard bought nearly as many
copies of each and began dropping them into Mom & Pop shops (including
Legends) around the country, record collectors oversees (taking out ads in
Goldmine and Discoveries) and Australia.
This finally got EMI off their asses to put the rest of the series in
stores....if the stuff isn't showing up on Soundscan then my sources have
exaggerated the amounts. Still, it looks like there's well over 2,000 copies
floating around.

EMI Canada was in a crunch to prop up their net worth and look good for the
auditors from that presumed Time-Warner/AOL buy-out that was going to
happen. The accountants went to the head of special products and told him
that they needed to re-issue them so that they would be back on the books
and resuscitate a stale catalogue, renew the copyrights and show that
Special Products was useful. There was also a government mandate for
refuelling the CanCon requirements....and it would be cheaper to re-issue
dead titles than sign new acts.
At least that's the story I got from the chief himself....
>just a cheap reissue worth maybe $5.99 in a Wal-Mart bin....
And believe it or not, EMI charged $24.99 plus tax and shipping off their
website...and at retail, EMI still has them averaging $18.99.....included in
that batch is Mother Tucker's Yellow Duck and New Potatoes (who?).

All the packages had to come in under $10k...and without involving
re-negotiations for bonus tracks, photos, etc.
We've all complained about this.....The Staccatos and Esquires albums were
re-issued "as is" with barely any mastering done to them and none of the
pre- or post-LP singles were incorporated. In the case of the Esquires,
their only hit single ("Man From Adamo") was left OFF!!

That disc's been out since '95, at $9.99 or cheaper...and they've only moved
5100 copies? God....

You mean SONY, Ralph? :-)
I can tell you that the SONY licensed "Stand Tall" by The Killer Dwarfs that
we put out one year ago has already surpassed 2,700 copies (In fact, 213
copies more than we agreed to sell over 3 years with SONY).
And SONY didn't think we'd sell 500 of these...
