And a little help from Brendan Benson if that seals the deal for anyone.
I know my mom is getting it on Sunday!

I love the old guys working with the young guys and making a great album
after years of mediocre stuff thing - I get to buy my parents good new
stuff from people they recognize.

Stuff I first heard from my parents, then they moved on to Shania and
Garth and the other pop of the moment - and now I get to re-introduce
them back to the good stuff.

They had the 'Tulare Dust' Merle Tribute with Steve Young, Peter Case,
Crenshaw, etc. - in their car stereo for 2 years.

Having finished my reviews for the upcoming May Fufkin page, I could
finally
turn towards my next stack of discs. I have to give kudos to Jeff
(Spinning
Jennies) Shelton for his side project The Well Wishers. This disc has
made
a mighty big first impression on me. Shelton's vocals and sensibility
are
very similar to The Posies -- if you are fan of The Posies, you should
buy
this. This is chock full of terrific songs.

I picked up the new Reigning Sound disc last week. This is simply one
of
the best garage rock records I have ever heard. 14 slabs of smoking R &
B
fueled rock and roll. The album is accurately titled TOO MUCH GUITARS
and
is appropriately on the In The Red label.

The new Loretta Lynn? Thumbs up. She sounds great, and Jack White does
her
proud as a producer.

The Delays -- still sinking in -- a few really good songs, but not sure
if
the disc is all out swell.

Nellie McKay -- Stewart Mason and some others have sung her praises --
thanks. A few misses, but this is nifty jazzy pop. I would love to
hear
her collaborate with Randy Newman or Kid Creole.

The Lackloves -- Mike Jarvis and co. are clinically incapable of making
a
record that is less than good.

That's all for now --

Mike Bennett
