I believe Falco did recut it with english lyrics (or it may have been another
cash-in) but it was too late. ATF's version became the hit  in the USA. The
only other song by ATF that I remember getting airplay was the Police-like
"Dancing in The Shadows" which strangely was also the b-side of "Komissar".

In Oklahoma the CHR stations played the german version of "99 Luftballoons"
first and then quickly flipped to the english version when it was released.
KJ-103 in OKC had an interesting remix where it switched back and torth
between
both languages. The only other remix I can recall where it did that was the
long dance version of Peter Schilling's "Major Tom (coming home)".
