Austin City Limits Fest Taking Shape

Sheryl Crow, Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio and Dashboard Confessional are
among the artists confirmed to play the 2004 edition of Austin City Limits
(ACL) Festival. Set for Sept. 17-19 in Zilker Park in the heart of the Texas
capitol, the annual event will boast more than 130 acts on eight stages.

Organizers confirmed to Billboard.com that the three-day festival will also
feature sets by returning performers Ben Harper and Jack Johnson, as well as
Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Modest Mouse, Big Head Todd and the
Monsters, Solomon Burke, Franz Ferdinand and the Beta Band.

Reunited seminal alternative rock act the Pixies was one of the first to let
the cat out of the bag, announcing an Sept. 18 ACL fest booking last month
along with their fall North American tour plans.

Other artists who have independently confirmed their participation include
Dale Watson, Joe Ely, Terri Hendrix, Terry Allen, Bruce Robison, Reckless
Kelly, Kelly Willis and Doyle Bramhall. The initial list of acts will be
officially announced in June.

Additions to this year's festival include the ACL Experience tent, which
will trace the history of the event's namesake PBS television series,
"Austin City Limits." Inside, concertgoers can take in performances from the
show's archives. Tickets to "Austin City Limits" tapings will also be given
away during the event.

The onsite SoCo art market will showcase local artisans, and the SBC
YahooDSL! Internet Cafe will offer free online access for attendee. An
affiliation with Cingular will offer customers text messaging updates and
special ACL Festival offers.

Three-day tickets are already on sale for $70 via the Austin City Limits
Festival Web site. Individual day tickets will be made available nearer to
the event.

Unaffiliated music travel agency Adventures In Rock has put together three
packages for the event. Two include entry to a Sept. 16 Pre Show Soundcheck
Gala, while one offers access to a VIP hospitality tent during the festival.

The 2003 ACL Festival drew more than 155,000 people, according to
organizers. Among the many performers were R.E.M., Al Green, String Cheese
Incident, Ween, Dwight Yoakam, Mavis Staples, Lucinda Williams, Steve
Winwood and Los Lobos.
