The list has been strangely quiet about IPO Chicago, which is currently
halfway through the 2004 run, probably because there's been a dearth of
Auditeers at shows relative to the last two years. There aren't as many big
names on this year's roster, but the bands have nevertheless been of the
usually high quality that one has come to expect from IPO.

A lot of old favorites have logged really solid sets thus far: Einstein's
Sister, the Tearaways, Ralph Covert & the Bad Examples, Van Go, Leisure
McCorkle, Eugene Edwards Band, Mark Watson Band, the Wes Hollywood Show, the
Beatifics, Million Yen, the Webstirs, the Goldstars, M.O.T.O., and Cherry
Blossom Clinic, to name a few. But I've also made some new discoveries: The
Golden Apples, Copperpot, the Ladies and Gentlemen, the Mumbles, Rock E.
Rollins (best guy-I've-never-heard-of frontman I've seen in years), Chris
Church, and John Brodeur of the Suggestions. Also, while I had to miss
Saturday night's extravaganze, Splitsville was apparently so good that David
Bash gave them a rare two encores.

I'd like to encourage anyone else who has been to one of the IPO Chicago
shows thus far this year to chime in with his or her thoughts on the
festival.
