Never heard Easy Livin' by Uriah Heep (in fact I can almost swear I've
never heard ANYTHING by Uriah Heep) but the Dickies do a fair old version
of it on their covers album, "Dogs from the Hare that Bit Us". They also
do decent versions if "I Can't Let Go" (Hollies) and "Solitary Confinement"
(The Weirdos?). Oh and "Nobody Like Me" (Human Beinz).

Yeah, the covers on *Dogs from the Hare ...* are some of the better
offerings in that vein from the Dickies. To me, though, their penultimate
take on somebody else's song will always be "Nights in White Satin" from
*Dawn of the Dickies* -- right down to the speedmetal guitar solo by Stan
Lee that duplicates note-for-note the flute solo from the Moody Blues
original. While I used to love to play it full blast in the dorm in college
in order to reduce my pretentious, Moody-Blues-loving neighbor to tears,
I've also come to realize that the Dickies actually did composer Justin
Hayward a favor by proving that he wrote a very good melody. It's just that
the song in its original form is so slow and ponderous that it's hard to
fully appreciate it. Speed it up considerably the way that the Dickies did,
and the melody becomes much more apparent.

Just listening to my latest acquisitions, 24/7 by the Well Wishers
(Spinning Jennies spin-off with a strong Posies influence).

As I told David Bash last night, if the originals don't work out the Well
Wishers can always forge ahead as a Rooks tribute band without having to
change their name.
