I have to agree on a certain level here. I was still listening to music
before and after Nirvana....in fact, DESPITE Nirvana. Like flesh-eating
disease Nirvana was everywhere...and yet, I managed to resist every aspect
of their infectious anti-melodic whiney angst (sorry, but I'm paraphrasing
Segarini here). In the same respect I always gagged at the notion of Pearl
Jam. I think only STP and Soundgarden gave me an ounce of interest. And
there was one Alice In Chains track that I recall. Otherwise, the whole
"scene" (a media concoction at the best of times) annoyed the shit out of
me.
To this day none of these acts gets much of a blink out of me except in
reminding me why I was driven to search out good pop material during this
time period like 54.40, Soho 69 and The Odds who were occasionally noisier
and truly more inspiring melodically.
