Really liked Apple Bed's first song (stars in her
eyes?) but thought the rest of it drifted away into
some immemorable well-intentioned litepop moments. As
far as British Crooners Who Previously Sported
Indefensible Hair go, I prefer Nik Kershaw's late 90s
efforts much, much better.
Haircut 100 has been on my mind alot in the past few
weeks, because of seeing franz ferdinand and getting
steamrolled by how incredibly great they were. I know
Mike Bennett has done all this gushing already, but
damn me if that's not the most fun show I've been to
in years - dancin', shoutin', fist pumpin', drink
raisin', singin' along - and it's all about infectious
hooky post-disco white boy funk with humor intact, a
la talking heads, and rapid-fire rhythm guitar ala new
wavers like Haircut 100 and (Mike tells me) Gang of
Four (and who was that other scottish band you
mentioned, Mike? ATF or UFB or some such?) with some
moments of Hot Hot Heat thrown in there, smart as hell
lyrics and two singers affecting that freshly scrubbed
proud-schoolboy-in-a-v-neck-sweater mode that really,
only British people can get away with (i was having a
flashback to the video for "Boy Meets Girl (Favourite
Shirts"). It's....nu wave! Dig it!
FRANZ FERDINAND. GO SEE THEM LIVE. I mean it. I'm
going to call you each at home after FF plays in your
town to make sure you went, and if you didn't I will
be very angry. You won't like me when I'm angry.
that is all:
