Put me in the camp that recognizes his impact over innovation
on this one...
I agree with alot of the sentiments expressed so far that
Cobain's influence on music and popular culture post 1991
is far more impressive than anything "qualitative" about his work.
I'm always a little irritated when critics/music fans gush at
at what a 'brilliant" songwriter he was. Yeah...he was OK at
crafting simple and catchy verse/choruses that ripped off
the Pixies. But "brilliant"? Far from it IMHO...
