Greg --
The NY Dolls also were a big influence on the Pistols. Hey, the Ramones
influence is pervasive. But due to their lack of recognition at the time,
they didn't set off a movement. The Sex Pistols did. The guys in The Jam
went to a Sex Pistols show -- they formed The Jam afterwards. Howard Devoto
and Pete Shelley booked The Sex Pistols in Manchester. Within months, the
Buzzcocks opened for the Sex Pistols. And there are more stories like that.
I think only The Beatles had such an immediate impact in inspiring teens
and young adults to form bands.
