Hi all,
A friend asked for my advise on how to sell their music
collection. I told her what I know but thought I'd ask the list, per
this is new territory for me. The collection includes roughly 15,000
compact discs (complete works of artists, 1000's and 1,000's of
bootlegs). Are CDrs worth anything? Some of the music is hard to
find stuff (collector in the true sense of the word). The collection
also has tons of music collectable type things (cards, toys, books,
posters, etc).
I know there may not be a single "right" answer but thought
people might have some ideas regarding these questions or where she
can go to get more answers.
Where to sell: Obviously, Ebay is an option. I also
suggested "Goldmine" as a possible option. Does anyone know of other
collector periodical options or other options for selling such a vast
amount of stuff. Obviously, used record stores would be the last
resort as the goal is to sell at the best price.
How to sell: Piece by piece, or collection by collection? For
example, selling all the Beatles or Dylan collectables and/or CD's in
the same place. Where? How? Auctions?
Also, for tax purposes they need an appraisal of everything. Any
suggestions?
Sorry for this interruption. If anyone has any thoughts on this
please email me off list. I don't want to clog the list with this.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. I'm admittedly in way over my
head in trying to give her advise on this and would appreciate any
thoughts. I know these questions are kind of vague but I may be able
to clarify things better off line.
Thanks, Steve D.
