I have to thoroughly disagree with Josh's first comment -- if the adulation
of Cobain were based solely on his musical output, maybe I'd agree --
somewhat. Nirvana put out three studio albums. The debut was good. The
next two were terrific albums that showcased Cobain as a very talented
songwriter, ace guitarist, backed by a killer rhythm section with one of the
best rock drummers of this generation.
On top of that, they could deliver the goods live (see live album) and were
possibly heading into some really interesting territory (see Unplugged
album).
Moreover, Nirvana had a major impact on so many aspects of music. Here are
the artists who I think really caused major changes in music -- not just
what was played, but inspiring artists, movements, etc.
Elvis Presley
The Beatles
The Sex Pistols
Run D.M.C.
Nirvana
It's because of that impact that the adulation for Cobain cannot be
overstated, IMO --
