Actually it was AT the park. I remember standing in line in the upper deck
waiting for a beer and a pretzel when I heard it mentioned the tinny speaker
playing the radio by the concession stand. I asked a guy next to me if I
heard the story right that Kurt Cobain was dead and he must've thought I
asked if Lithuania's climate is more maritime or continental, because his
answer was "I don't give a shit". Ahhh, the unity of the ballpark.

By the time we got back to Mike's apartment MTV was in full blown
pull-out-all-the-stops mode. I was a little saddened (but not totally
surprised) by his death, but after a few hours of MTV's barrage of coverage
it was actually kind of funny. Not the death, but the intense coverage from
MTV. In any news event I'm always fascinated by the round the clock coverage
and the reaching for something new to say when there's no news. Peter
Jennings and Dan Rather are pros at it, but the MTV news staff wasn't quite
up to the task.
