Half a recommendation here. The Delays strike me as a band that might be
appreciated on this list. They're on the verge of becoming fairly big in
the UK, with one of their songs being used on quite a lot of TV programme
trailers. The vocals (in places) are very reminiscent of Redd Kross, but
the music is less chirpy. They're clearly fond of richly layered washes of
sound. Their debut album is starting to pop up in the usual places, but I
found it a bit disappointing. The singles "Long time coming" and "Nearer
than heaven" remain excellent songs, but they're joined by fairly
unspectacular album tracks. "Hey girl" (another single) sounds like
something The La's might have recorded, though.

Anyway, I'd definitely recommend checking out the singles. And perhaps I'll
grow to like the rest of the album.

Saw Simple Kid live last night and was absolutely astonished. Apparently
he's giving each show a different theme, then performing the whole set in
accordance. Last night, almost all of the songs were performed in a
country/bluegrass style. Brilliant adaptations of his own songs, along with
a striking vocoder-enhanced version of Hurt, and a very amusing hoe-down
version of Ace of Spades. Great fun. Looking forward to seeing him again
to see what he comes up with next time.
