I am a Prince subscriber and had his live album as #1 for 2002. I saw him
at Avery Fisher Hall. He is absolutely sensational. I think once he
started releasing all he wanted, it seemed like he was losing it-- because
he'd record 40 songs a year and the record company would put out the best
12; now he puts out everything. His talent hasn't diminished; just the edit
process has changed.

At Avery Fisher he played the first 80 minutes, new material-- either from
Rainbow Children or not yet released-- and no one cared. It was that good.
Then when he got to the more familiar material-- look out.

I give him a lot of credit for remaining fresh and creative and distancing
himself from material that isn't relevant to him anymore (at AFH, he said if
you were looking for Purple Rain, this wasn't 1984.) But yeah, he did play
some stuff off it. And "Sometimes It Snows in April" (Parade) was glorious.
