Interesting R&RHOF show on vh-1 last night! After hearing about his marathon
speech at the actual ceremony, I'm glad they mercifully trimmed Yawn Wenner
to a minimum, especially when he spoke about "musical credibility" and
"Rolling Stone magazine" in the same sentence. No Hunter S. Thompson
comments? One of my favorite parts of the Hall is the exchange of letters
between the two (at least it was there a few years back).

The George Harrison songs were great - loved seeing his son jam on rhythm
guitar - although I would have loved to see Ringo induct him instead of
Petty/Lynne. And Prince was a little cocky on the encore, y'think? :)

Wonder why Dave Mason wasn't playing with Capaldi and Winwood on the Traffic
cut - bad blood there? Didn't seem like it at the acceptance (Capaldi was
hilarious) and judging by the "Feelin Alright" encore, Mason still has his
chops intact.

And was Norah Jones practicing her phone sex voice in her over-the-top intro
to Prince, or is that what she normally talks like?

Was that a Mark Farner look-alike playing with Bob Seger, or was that
Farner? The drummer looked like Don Brewer, and I know Craig Frost plays
keyboards...is that Michigan's idea of the Witness Protection Program for
Grand Funk? Where was Mel - bagged and gagged in a dumpster?

Jackson Browne sounded pretty good (but I wonder if he uses the same plastic
surgeon that Mickey Rourke did). And is that what David Lindley looks like
without a mop'o'hair? I saw him in concert twice and he had to be the
greasiest human being alive (and I've worked in restaurants), so the
librarian look was a shocker.

Keith Richards did an AMAZING Johnny Depp impression! Keef, use a mirror -
worst headband since Dire Straits.

Why do I like Dave Matthews' stories more than his music? It's not like they
get right to the point either, but...

Did I mention how good Prince was? Maybe this generation will get their
James Brown after all.

The Dells have been together for FIFTY YEARS? Hell - I haven't even been
together for fifty years. Yeah, I know they're not rock and roll per se, but
recognition is due for bands like this. I mean no one takes this seriously
as a criteria for "do they rock", so why not? My hall of fame is documented
in my album and cd collection, and that's all I need.
