Hey Mike,
The artist to whom you're referring is Spookey Ruben, who did have a band
backing him that night, and did have a video going during his last song.
Yeah, his sound is extremely quirky, very much in the XTC camp. Spookey had
recently moved to L.A. from Canada, so your memory for virtually every
detail is quite accurate. He actually did have a couple of CDs for sale,
"Bed" and "Breakfast" which, although are separate entities work well
together as a pair, as the titles would suggest.
I'm happy to say that Spookey will be back at IPO LA this year!
