The March 2004 Fufkin.com page is up. This month we have the following
record reviews:
Mike Bennett presents full length reviews of the newest releases from the
highly touted Franz Ferdinand, Tim Reid, Denise James and Edson. Mike also
has capsule reviews of new music from The Green Circles, The Mighty Stars,
Hindu Rodeo, Descendents, and The Evaporators, a live release from power pop
legends The Rubinoos and reissues from Action Now!, Ric Menck and The
Pyramidiacs.
Gary Glauber reviews the latest from Dada, Rusty Anderson, Hindu Rodeo and
Jeff Finlin.
James Baumann is back with reviews of The Bigger Lovers, The League Bowlers,
Magnolia Summer and Ric Menck.
David Fufkin reviews the latest trip from Rhino Records into the corners of
the 60s, Come to the Sunshine: Soft Pop Nuggets From the WEA Vaults.
Kurt Hernon confronts getting old in his own special way, showing, as
always, that you can be edgy and a curmudgeon, all the while, listening to
good music.
Mr. Hernon also bestows important wisdom, in a piece you may want to print
out, as he gives you his Real Life Guide to Independent Living.
In the interest of fairness, the ever just Michael Lynch, who last month
looked at The Beatles on Ed Sullivan, now looks at The Rolling Stones
appearances on the legendary Sunday night show.
Artists are complaining about downloading. Whats new? Now, theyre upset
that folks only downloading single tracks, hurting the integrity of the full
length album. Mike Bennett is somewhat skeptical, as he explains this
month.
Alan Haber is back (did we mention last month how pleased we are to have him
aboard, because we are) with an insightful piece on pirate radio.
Gary Pig Gold and masterful power pop singer-songwriter Bill Lloyd are busy
people. So Gary cuts to the chase, asking Bill eight questions and getting
eight answers.
Eric Sorensens Further Observations of a Jangly Music Fan trains the jangly
spotlight on Roger McGuinn, Tom Alford, Braden Blake, Raquels Boys,
Cranbury Sauce, The Rosenbergs and a whole lot more.
Kevin Mathews presents another installment of So Much Music...So Little
Time. Kevin previews a record from Avion, featuring a member of The Tories.
Kevin also gives his take on the new BMX Bandits, The Wannadies,
Moonbabies, Jon James, The Fearless Freeps and others.
Robert Pally has an interview with Canadian singer Ray Materick.
David Fufkin weighs in on Brian Wilsons recent performances of the great
lost Beach Boys album Smile.
We hope you all come and visit us. For those of you who visited us after
our nomination for a web award from South By Southwest, thank you very much.
And an extra special thank you to all of our readers who voted for us for
the Peoples Choice Award. The winners are announced in mid-March.
