That is an issue. It's hard for stations to up their power in big cities and some big stations have bumped small ones off their translator frequencies. Colleges don't' really want to spend the time or money to change the situation. On many campuses, the station is just a tiny outlet that
probably goes back to a time when they handed out frequencies pretty easily. I know there have been a few college stations that have had their licenses sold for a lot of money... There has been the occasional rumblings about there here from various factions in the student government. Luckily
the community support is so strong, it would never happen. Out here, the station is funded by the student body and contributions. They also are very good at getting grants. Up in Helena, the state capitol, and Livingston, they formed groups to fund their translators. Not uncommon out here,
where the radio dial isn't saturated, and people are willing to make an effort to get NPR and college radio.

They also haven't made it that easy to do web casting. I don't know where the laws stand now, but a year ago it was impossible for us to go on the web.
