TODD RUNDGREN & FRIENDS

Join us for a very special evening to benefit The Public Theater's
programming at Joe's Pub with the legendary
singer/songwriter/multimedia
artist/producer Todd Rundgren. From early days with The Nazz and
Utopia
to solo projects and multimedia excursions such as TR-i, Rundgren has
been a restless innovator and pioneering individualist, continually
charting new, unpredictable territory and winning a diehard following.
With hits including "I Saw the Light," "Hello, It's Me" "Can
We Still Be
Friends," and "Bang The Drum All Day", and production credits ranging
from Badfinger to Meat Loaf to the New York Dolls to XTC to Bad
Religion, few artists have had as broad an impact on popular music as
Todd Rundgren. LIARS, Todd's first studio album of all new material in
over 10 years, is being released on April 6 by Sanctuary Records.

Rundgren returns to The Public Theater for the first time since The
Public produced his musical UP AGAINST IT in 1989, based on an
unfinished Joe Orton screenplay originally commissioned by the Beatles
for their third movie. Todd has created a once-in-a-lifetime concert
especially for this Benefit, including his only acoustic performance
this year of personal favorites as well as selections from UP AGAINST
IT. "When I realized that Joe's Pub was named for THE Joe, whatever I
had previously considered performing took a back seat to the
possibility
of reviving at least some highlights of UP AGAINST IT, the musical
that
Joseph Papp hired me to compose. There was enough enthusiasm from
enough
of the original cast that the idea actually got up and walked."

Joining Todd from the original cast will be TOM AULINO (On the Town)
as
Bernard Coates, ROGER BART (The Producers, Tony Award winner for
You're
a Good Man, Charlie Brown) as Christopher Low; TONI DiBUONO (The Boys
from Syracuse) as Connie Boon, and ALISON FRASER (two-time Tony Award
nominee for The Secret Garden and Romance/Romance) as Miss Drumgoole.

Benefit tickets are $150, ($115 tax-deductible) and include a post-
show
dessert reception with the artist and a ticket for the Public's
Shakespeare in the Park production of "Much Ado About Nothing",
directed
by David Esbjornson.

For tickets, call 212.539.8778, beginning Thursday, March 11.

Wine generously donated by ASTOR Wines & Spirits.
