Austin's version of March Madness is upon us once again. I also highly
recommened Paisley Pop's recommendations of The Rite Flyers and Salim
Nourallah. TRF self titled disc was in my Top 20 for 2003. The band has 2
songwriters, making for a varied but cohesive record.
I also recommend showcases at the Yard Dog Gallery and Continental Club (go
to www.yeproc.com for details), Pecan St Ale House (Rainbow Quartz), Blender
Bar at The Ritz (Trampoline Records), The Vibe and Dog and Duck Pub (Pop
Culture Press). The showcases at Yard Dog and Dog and Duck Pub and free
daytime events. No passes or wristbands needed.
Oh yeah and did I mention that Big Star will be at Austin Music Hall....:-)
Austin bands I recommend that have showcases include : Sparkwood
(www.sparkwood.com ; they have new mp3s on their new website), Golden Apples
(www.thegoldenapples.com), Shane Bartell (www.shanebartell.com), Oliver
Future (www.oliverfuture.com).
