Saw this story here:
Looney Tunes Sells For $104.50 On Ebay
What was described as a "mint condition" copy of the 1978 release of K-tel
Records Looney Tunes (NU 9140) sold for $104.50 on December 10th on the
on-line
auction service, eBay. The winning bidder, who goes by "f5chasr", of Round
Rock, Texas was surprised by the final auction-ending price. "I did not think
that the price would go that high, " he said. "I figured I would pay at most
$75,"
The album, listed by a San Antonio seller who goes by "queakey," was listed a
week earlier at a starting bid of $4.99. "Ive been listing K-tels when I come
across them with pretty good results," he said. I always start them at either
$3.99 or $4.99 and they usually sell at that price. I thought this would be
one
of the more popular ones, and I had hoped it would get $15."
The final selling price for Looney Tunes has been steadily increasing on eBay.
On November 30th, a copy of the album sold for $68.00. Previously, on November
16th, the same title sold for $43.00.
"I purchased the album for my brother as a Christmas present," said f5chasr.
"We owned the album when we were younger and I sold it at a garage sale in the
early 80s
he was not happy that I sold it," he laughed.
The album, which features such recordings as "Theyre Coming to Take Me Away,"
and "The Streak," is not the first compilation of novelty songs to see a high
final selling price on eBay. On November 17, the 1975 disc, "Goofy Greats,"
(NU
903) sold for $68.00.
