Darkness frontman gets death threats

LONDON (AP) -- Retro rocker Justin Hawkins, frontman for The Darkness, has
received death threats, a spokesman for the group confirmed Wednesday.

"A band of this stature are bound to receive letters of this nature," the
spokesman said on customary condition of anonymity. "We do not wish to make
any further comment due to the distress it has caused to family and
friends."

Wednesday's edition of The Sun newspaper said the first threat arrived
shortly after The Darkness collected three Brit Music Awards, the equivalent
of the Grammys, last week.

They won best British group, rock act and album, "Permission to Land,"
inspired by '70s and '80s rockers.

"It was a handwritten letter; very weird," Hawkins was quoted as telling The
Sun about the threat. "It's quite flattering that somebody wants to kill me
but at the same time it's very scary."

"I don't know who it is, but we've got the police involved," the newspaper
quoted him as saying. (More on The Darkness)
