Regarding the rare remake that tops the original, although it's not exactly the same band - and although the original has more balls - I'd have to say that ELO's remake of Jeff Lynne's Move contribution, "Do Ya", has better overall impact thanks to the tighter production and playing. I do like both versions very much, though.

I have a friend and former bandmate who is such a slave to preferring whatever he's heard the first time that I can no longer let him hear demos. He still believe that our old band's first recorded acoustic rehearsal tops anything we'd ever done thereafter. I think, with that precious cassette in his hands, he would have been happier had the band broken up right after that rehearsal.
