I may be wrong here, but I assumed Andrew was referring to the threat from
Canada being "almost non-existent", rather than the general threat of
terrorism. I've travelled to both Canada and the USA before 9/11 (and to
the USA after 9/11) and I generally found the American immigration staff
to be more brusque, to ask more irrelevant questions and to be generally
less tolerant than their Canadian counterparts. This was highlighted most
on a trip to Niagara Falls, where, on arrival, we discovered our hotel on
the Canadian side was in the middle of construction work and we had to
relocate to another hotel on the American side. The hassle we got from US
customs officials was incredible. None of our party had US $'s (because
none had intended crossing over the border into the States) and US Customs
staff could not have been less helpful.

Maybe just the recruitment policy for US Customs staff at fault here, cos
as you know, I dig most other Americans :-)

Back to the music - been listening to the Gurus album (just out on Rainbow
Quartz) and it's really rather groovy IMHO - mid-period Beatley sounds
 abound.

 B^)
