(snipping andrew's very articulate post)

~~~ yes.  people here (imo) need to pay attention to
what is going on re: fingerprinting and virtual
"dossier-ing" of anyone coming through customs as far
as people not from the US, and... then the great
(!?!?!?) idea of having a national database for
EVERYONE traveling so they have a 'security code'
attached to them.
recent articles i've read (even from such surface
sites such as yahoo) say that in order to assemble
such 'codes,' our mortgage documents, credit ratings,
medical records, etc., etc., would be accessed and
used.  wow.  1984/big brother, what??
there seems to be no stable classification system as
to what gives someone a particular security 'rating,'
and once you get labeled, you cannot appeal or change
your rating...or if you can POSSIBLY manage it, it is
under major work and effort.... hmm... sounds like a
lot of other things here.  but, i'll stick to the
travel issue for now.
it's scary and congress is battling the idea, saying
that there are a lot of security flaws (people being
able to access said mortgage/credit/medical (!)
records), and hopefully americans will wake up and say
this is ridiculous.  it scares, no -- horrifies me.
