You picked a good week.
You should know that the British Sea Power show looks like it will start
early (doors at 7 according to the Crocodile web site), and that the first
band -- the Turn-Ons -- are a pretty good local pop band that you might want
to check out. The second band, Kinski, is also pretty highly regarded
(though less so by me).
As for record stores, I can offer a few suggestions. Someone mentioned
Cellophane Square in the U district, but that one has gone pretty far down
hill. The two best bets are Sonic Boom and Easy Street.
Sonic Boom has locations in Fremont, Ballard, and Capitol Hill. Of these, I
recommend Ballard -- I think it's the biggest and most interesting of the
three. Easy Street has two locations -- one in West Seattle and the other
north of downtown in an area called Lower Queen Anne. The Lower Queen Anne
store is huge and easy to get to from downtown -- it's walking distance from
the Space Needle, etc.
