ooh ooh mr kotTERE. lemmee just say this about 'one-nil' :: while its certainly not a 'difficult' record~~a/k/a esoteric crap with self-conscious complexity that charms critics and alienates normal people~~it is kind of a creeper. first several spins, shrugged it off as vh1 reject material. then one day, i just *got* it. super-creative, nimble production where you can hear something new each listen; lyrics on a par with andy partridge and elvis; unique phrasing and instrumentation; good melodies. maybe give it a mulligan?

I really cannot agree with this. "One-Nil" really has left me cold, although I quite enjoyed "Try Whistling This." I'll admit that the first Finn Brother album wasn't a super strong effort...it has something of the feel of being tossed off without a lot of effort, but other post-Enz efforts have been quite good. I'm thinking of "Woodface" and the couple of co-written tracks on Tim's "Before & After" A Finn Brothers album that spends a little more time in the studio might be quite nice indeed.
