Okay. I'll be more concise. "Suck" was my primordial reaction to the vocal
skills of The Darkness' lead vocalist.
Academically, what constitutes "suck", specifically, is the inability to
stay on key, in tune, or evoke a memorable melody. That pretty much sums up
everyone on your list above. These folks might emote, and they might be
great lyricists, songwriters and poets but this talent should never be
misconstrued as part of their "singing" ability.
Some folks listen to their songs as a whole, I listen to music with a dozen
different criteria....one of which is whether the person dominating the song
(i.e. the singer) is unbearable.
Add Neil Young to that list too would ya?
