Jaimie,
A very thorough explanation. Thanks. I always wondered what was up
with that Rubber/Harem thing. I first picked up the Rubber disc and
wondered where these guys came from, because they sounded
very "polished". There was no mention of their names/history in the
rubber website, I just noticed that they looked a little "old", then
I went to a used record store and stumbled through the various "H"
bins and noticed the resemblance.
I definitely don't blame them for changing their name in Canada,
because Harem Scarem=Lame as far as everyone is concerned. The second
album was better than the first in my opinion, but received
absolutely no airplay, and died a quick death.
I totally agree, they are definitely shrewd businessmen. I suppose
they wouldn't be the first band to cater to trends. Maybe the
Darkness thing is an act too, but when they are interviewed they seem
to really believe that they are the saviours of rock and roll...
