Conspicuous in the Capitol index is the lack of listing for "I Want To
Hold Your Hand/I Saw Her Standing There". I've double checked the index
and the single's release (according to CHUM-AM's chart) should have
happened after Roll Over Beethoven (Capitol 72133) and before All My
Loving (Capitol 72144)....and yet all the catalogue numbers in between
are accounted for by other artists.
Seems to me that Capitol USA may have supplied that particular single to
Capitol Canada as an import for some reason....hmmm....
***Referencing Bruce Spizer's "The Beatles' Story on Capitol Records,"
Capitol of Canada issued "I Want to Hold Your Hand" in early January
1964 but used the same number (5112) as the US single. The song spent 17
weeks on the CHUM hit parade.
Interestingly, Capitol of Canada also released the Beatles singles put
out by Vee-Jay, Tollie and Swan to prevent imports from coming into the
country and capitalize on their success.
