Subject Major labels & Audities poll

Hello:

Several people have mentioned that more discs on major labels did well on
this year's audities poll than in years past, and just anecdotally (I don't have
the stats from some of the old ones handy) that does seem to be the case. But
could part of this be that, for the first full year in a long time, major
labels have actually been signing *and promoting* good talent (or at least talent
that suits our tastes)? Don't get me wrong, I'll always be a cheerleader for
the indies and everything they stand for, but I'm encouraged that the majors
are in a period of trying. I do feel a little bad that I probably bought more
CDs that were on majors this year than in the past 2 or 3 years combined, but
again, there was good stuff. I'll still always love Not Lame etc.

By the way, speaking of indies, has anyone noticed how kick-ass Sub Pop has
become (again) the past few years? Postal Service, The Shins, and Hot Hot Heat
(to name just a few) are all on Sub Pop, and ALL three had mainstream success!
It's really quite impressive, and all three albums are excellent (IMHO).
